Scottish hairdressers & colleges return from 5th April

Beauty and hair students in Scotland can begin to return to Further Education from Monday 5th April, it has been announced. In addition, hairdressing salons and barbershops may reopen from the same date for hair cutting services by appointment only.

Businesses, including salons, that offer retail items may resume 'click and collect' of orders from 5th April.

Nicola Sturgeon made the announcement at a briefing to the Scottish Parliament today (16th March).

Beauty salons, spas and nail salons must remain closed until Monday 26th April, as announced previously. Mobile beauty therapists, nail techs, hairdressers etc working in clients homes may also resume doing so from that date (mobile hairdressers and barbers may not return to work until 26th April).

From 5th April, colleges have the option to prioritise the return of students whose education for completion of their qualification is dependent upon face-to-face learning to on-campus training, including those studying for beauty and hair qualifications.

From 17th May, the government aims for all colleges to a more blended model of learning.

The country's 'Stay at Home' restrictions remain in place until 2nd April.

Businesses and individuals must follow the Scottish government's guidance on safe working in respect of COVID-19 guidelines. If you are unsure, please contact your Local Authority for clarification.
