Softer colours & floral details make this a romantic time of year for nails
As the season shifts, so do the choices our clients make in the salon, explains Zsuzsanna Varga. After months of deeper tones, structured designs and winter durability, spring brings a noticeable change – not just in colour, but in mood.
Recently, I've seen a clear movement towards softer, lighter shades. Pastel pinks, lilacs, butter yellow, fresh greens and light blues are becoming some of the most requested colours across appointments. These shades don't just reflect the season, they reflect how clients want to feel: Lighter. Fresher. More effortless.
This transition isn't sudden, but when it happens, it's very clear in the salon chair. Clients who were previously choosing dark reds, browns or classic nudes are now reaching for something softer, often without even realising why.
The rise of romantic nail design
Alongside colour, nail art is also shifting; flowers are everywhere. From delicate blossoms to soft, diffused petals, floral designs are dominating requests and it's easy to see why; spring is arguably the most romantic season for nails.
Everything feels softer, more feminine and more expressive. But what's interesting is how these designs are evolving. We're not just seeing bold, structured florals; instead, clients are leaning towards softer approaches:
•
Blended petals
•
Watercolour-style effects
•
Subtle detailing rather than heavy composition
•
Designs that feel effortless, not overworked
This creates a look that feels wearable, elegant and perfectly suited to everyday life, not just special occasions.
The evolution of Baby Boomer
One trend that continues to hold its place in the salon is the Baby Boomer, but this season it's evolving.
Traditionally, the classic soft fade from pink to white has been a go-to for clients wanting something elegant and timeless. While that hasn't disappeared, we're now seeing a softer, more playful interpretation emerge. Instead of white, pastel tones are stepping in. Think:
•
Pink fading into lilac
•
Nude blending into butter yellow
•
Soft bases melting into baby blue or fresh green
These pastel fades keep the same seamless, diffused effect that makes Baby Boomer so popular, but with a seasonal twist that feels lighter and more modern.
What makes this shift so effective in the salon is that it still delivers everything clients already love:
•
Soft, natural grow-out
•
A flattering finish for every nail length
•
A clean, polished look that doesn't feel overpowering
But now, it also allows clients to wear colour in a way that still feels subtle and wearable.
As nail professionals, we often look for the next big trend, but sometimes the shift is quieter. This season isn't about bold statements, it's about softness, balance and emotion. And in many ways, that's what makes it one of the most beautiful times of year to work in the salon.
