Global Wellness Day offers free wellness experiences

This year's Global Wellness Day (GWD) is set to take place on Saturday 8th June.

This marks the international event's eighth year, which last year saw over 100 countries celebrating at over 4,000 locations. Events included complimentary wellness activities such as yoga, Pilates, dance, hiking, and Zumba, along with workshops related to diet, nutrition, healthy eating and happiness therapies such as laughter, breathing, art and mindfulness, and beauty.

The event was founded by Aksoy Belgin, who dreamt of taking the awareness of wellness to every corner of the globe, with the slogan ‘One Day Can Change Your Whole Life.' Aksoy is founder of Turkey's Richmond Nua Wellness Spa, and believes that wellness shouldn't be a luxury maintaining the initiative's ethos that GWD events are free and open to the public.

Global Wellness Day's manifesto is simple:

1. Walk for an hour
2. Drink more water
3. Don't use plastic bottles
4. Eat healthy food
5. Do a good deed
6. Have a family dinner with your loved ones
7. Go to sleep at 10pm

This has inspired an international network of over 86 GWD Ambassadors, including Paul Gerrard, Communications Director at Gerrard International in the UK.

Global Wellness Day 2018
Last year's Global Wellness Day saw over 100 countries celebrating at over 4,000 locations.
Paul Gerrard explains why he got involved with Global Wellness Day:

“I've been asked whether I feel we have too many days dedicated to mental health and wellness. The truth is, sadly for most people, there are not enough. 365 days is about the right number of days that should be dedicated to you caring for you and your world. Global Wellness Day isn't about that one day, it's about the other 364 days and what you do with them. In short, no-one's ever got sick from having too many days of wellness.”
